Churches walk a tight line when it comes to donations. Few people carry cash these days, and almost no one carries a checkbook. Churches are often asked by members to accept credit cards for pledges or camp fees, but many are reluctant—they don’t want members to go into debt for these items.
The solution for many, including Britton Christian Church in Oklahoma City, is mobile apps. In Britton’s case, that meant adding Vanco’s GivePlus to its existing church management software, Servant Keeper.
“If you don’t have online giving, don’t wait any longer,” says Becky Petree, office manager at the church. In the first full month of offering the GivePlus Mobile app, 18 percent of total monetary gifts flowed through GivePlus. “We knew it would have a good response,” says Petree, “But we’ve been pleasantly surprised at the response we’ve gotten.”
Using GivePlus eGiving tools, the church has focused on meeting its community’s needs, including after-school programs, study help for middle-school kids, ACT prep and a college scholarship program, a food pantry and English as a second language classes.
“We didn’t dream big enough, honestly,” Petree says.
