Positive energy drives increased summer generosity

Blog_Positivity_0628.jpgFewer people may be around this summer, but there is still a lot of positive energy coming from your church. Keeping everyone up to speed on your activities and events is important for building a thriving ministry and creating a congregation of cheerful givers.

Your church can make it through the busy summer without financial worries by keeping your communications to your congregation uplifting and by offering them multiple ways to give. You can increase their involvement and their generosity by making people aware of everything going on at the church through email newsletters, social media, your website, weekly bulletin announcements and any other communication channels you have.

At my church,  we’re on a summer schedule with fewer services and no Sunday school, but the ministry is still quite active. Leadership keeps us informed about many ongoing and upcoming events through several channels:

• A youth group left last weekend on a 10-day mission trip. We’re keeping up through daily blogs, photos on the church website and text messages from our youth minister.

• Vacation Bible School is bringing new energy and life to the community every day. There was a reminder on the church’s Twitter feed.

• Our Music Ministry’s summer concert series is bringing in talented choirs from other churches and presenting its own performances. We can buy tickets online.

• There are still lots of volunteer opportunities through our Outreach Ministries. The weekly bulletin lists them all.

• Our Annual Retreat is just around the corner, so it’s not too early to think about arranging schedules. The church’s Facebook page links to the registration page on the website where we can sign up and pay.

The methods my church employs aren’t the only ones that can keep your members engaged and active. During a summer service, other churches highlight positive outcomes from their outreach ministries, moving people to lend their financial help with uplifting stories about programs that help newly resettled refugees, recovering addicts, children who need school clothes, church members who’ve lost their jobs and more.

Electronic giving options are also especially important this time of year. Members who are away this summer, or just engaged in other activies within your church community besides attending Sunday services, can give more easily through a variety of options so the church doesn’t miss out on their generosity.

Read our case study, Give by Text Expands Church’s Giving Options, to see how this modern, convenient option can meet your members’ varying needs and increase your total donation plate.
